BioABOUT ME:
During the 2009-2010, I will be a language and culture assistant/English teacher in a school just outside of Madrid Spain. Seeing as things never seem to happen quite like they're suppose to when I'm around (my own fault for the most part), and because I enjoy writing, I thought I'd chronicle the events of my time abroad and share them publicly in this journal for family, friends, friends-of-friends, and the totally random person who followed a random link. *waves*

sarahkjrsten. I am a recent college graduate who studied Creative Writing, with a double minor in Spanish and teaching English as a second language (aka TEFL). I love languages, having studied both Spanish, Swedish and French--though my one year of French in high school has mostly been forgotten, sadness.
I really enjoy writing, and have written the rough drafts of three novels (all with the same title, because I really suck at thinking up good titles) but all three are so awful for the sake of the children, I will not share them, lol. Currently one of my short stories is out in the scary world of literary magazines being rejected. But that's okay.

1. Why are you doing this?
Because I can. And at the very least it will leave me with something to drag out and show family and friends once I get home. Think of it as the modern day slide show.
2.enthpenthka? What's up with a name like that? What does it mean anyway?
Picture an obnoxious 18 year old version of me on a sugar high talking to my equally hyper friend on the phone trying to say the word 'svenska' (Swedish for Swedish) and you'll have a pretty good idea of how the blog name came to be.
3. Can you even speak Spanish?
Well, I minored in it, so I certainly hope I can make myself understood. Granted, my approach to grammer is very que será, será...so we'll see how it goes.
4. How long will you be there?
10 months--roughly. Mid-September until mid-July.
5. Do you know any Spanish people?
Two of my Spanish professors are from Spain. Granted, one from the south of Spain and one from the North and I'll be in the middle, but hey, it counts. And some of my livejournal friends are from Spain.
6. I just started reading! Where do I begin!
Right here.
7. Have you ever been out of the country before?
Yes. I studied abroad in Sweden for six months and have traveled to England, Ireland, Wales, Denmark, Germany, and Italy (and I took a train through Austria, so I'm totally counting it too).
8. What's your favorite color?
PINK!
9. Wow. You can't spell.
Sad but true.
10. Wait, you said you're a writer? What do you write?
Lots of stuff. I try my hand at anything I'd like to read, so historical fiction, science fiction, romance, etc. I think at the moment I probably write short stories best because that's what I've had the most practice writing for my workshops. But my short stories are always so long that I probably should be a novel writer. I'd love to write screenplays, I think that would be a ton of fun.
